Our Missions and Outreach Team handles numerous projects every year that benefit the community, the church, college students, elderly, homebound, the homeless, nation-wide and internationally.  We work hand in hand with many other organizations like UMCOR – the United Methodist Committee on Relief.  Any help you can give is deeply appreciated be it financial, material, or your own volunteer time. God bless you as you reach out and make someone’s day!

Ongoing External Church Mission Programs

  • Family Promise This a national program and we work with the Monroe County branch.  Every three months we host families who are facing a housing crisis for any number of reasons.  During the week [Sunday evening to the following Sunday morning] we provide supper and breakfast as well as a place to sleep for the night.
  • Christmas Dinner – This is a community dinner before Christmas in which a general invitation is extended to the community.  There is no charge for the meal.  Last year we served 350 people.  We also had gifts for the children.
  • Pocono Mountain Ecumenical Hunger Ministry  Through contributions of food, volunteer work, and an annual walk to raise funds of this ministry members of the church play an important role in a ministry that serves families and individuals in need that live in the ministry area, once a month.
  • Russia Initiative For several years the church has played a leading role with other churches on the Pocono Mountain.  We have been the leading supporter of this ministry which seeks to raise $10,000 a year to support the ministry of Valeri Patkevitch in Volgograd.  He has visited our church on two separate occasions.
  • Women’s Resources of Monroe County whose mission is to end domestic violence and sexual assault in our community and provides victims in crisis a community resource that is available to them 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, and 365 days per year.
  • Pocono Plateau – Local camp of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church.
  • Monroe County Clergy Association to support the work of chaplains in the Pocono Medical Center and local jails.
  • Salvation Army – General support of their work in the county.
  • Habitat for Humanity –  General support of their work in the county.
  • World Service  The church has sought over the years to pay its World Service apportionment in full until this past year when the conference asked churches to give more of its support to conference apportionments.  We do designation two communion offerings a year for world service.
  • Communion Offerings We receive offerings for World Wide Communion Sunday, United Methodist Student Day, Native American Sunday, Peace with Justice and special offerings for UMCOR to respond to natural disasters.
  • Lehigh Valley Community Foundation – This year we learned that an anonymous donor has named us in a bequest that will provide the church with some un-restricted funds each year.  We have invited members and organizations of the church to submit proposals for various ministries of the church.
  • Special Requests  From time to time we have requests to meet special needs for members and non-members and we send out emails and collect items and sometimes funds to meet these needs.
Pastor’s Discretionary Fund – The church provides funds through a communion offering and special gifts from members to meet emergency needs of members and non-members.
