Message from the Pastor

Dear Friends:

Spring is in the air! We hear birds chirping, the air is fresh and crisp, and the flowers are blooming. Spring is in the air, inviting us to the new life that God offers. For those of us who stayed indoors throughout the winter, we are being beckoned to step out into the new season.

For us Christians, new life is very noticeable during Easter. We celebrate the Risen Christ, who burst forth with new life 2,000 years ago. The season of Easter is God’s invitation to trust in the new life God offers. This is what the Bible calls “eternal life.” It begins here and now but it is also a future where we live in the presence of God forever. Spring is God’s transforming power allowing new life to burst forth from the ground when daffodils bloom and all the other flowers like the lilies, tulips and hyacinths blossom. It is the new life God offers through Jesus Christ. It is the belief that all things can be made new in the springtime.

This spring I bought my son some fresh spring clothes for church and he was so happy to wear them as any little child getting new things. Spring is time of new life and it engages us practically, by moving us to spruce our yards, homes, offices, and garages. This time can also be a time when we spiritually clean our spiritual lives as well. We have to know we have been forgiven and, therefore, whatever chains hold us down can be broken. God can breathe new life into our broken lives, our broken families, our broken marriages, and whatever struggles we have. It is a promise of new life. This new life should give us the energy to do what we can to help build our lives and the kingdom of God.

This new life continues as we look ahead to celebrate all our mothers on this upcoming Mother’s Day. As the saying goes, God couldn’t be everywhere, so he gave us mothers. Let us celebrate this with our mothers all over the world. God’s new life is all around us. Let us step outside and bask in it.

May the signs of new life in nature remind us that Christ is risen and he is alive forevermore. With his power we can change our lives, our communities, and our world riding on the wave of love and peace.

In His Service,
Pastor Kofi Ashley
