March 2019

Message from the Pastor

The journey through Lent starts from Ash Wednesday to Easter. It is a forty-day trip. Even though as Christians we journey together, our experience of the trip will vary. Some of us will travel through Lent without giving it much thought and some will go through without much effort and some with little investment and gain nothing. However, others will embrace the journey, challenge themselves in a new spiritual way and in the end find themselves renewed, refreshed and transformed. So, as we begin the journey next week we all have to decide ahead of time how we would like our experience to go.

We must take the time to prepare and plan just like we would plan for a road trip. There is no better opportunity to reorder our lives, make a new start, and deepen our spiritual life through reflection.

We would all have opportunities to fellowship and nourish our souls starting on Ash Wednesday March 6. I will be leading an Ash Wednesday Service for our Kids Day Out School and Teachers in the morning at 10 a.m. Those of us who are not able to come out at night can join the kids for ashes in the morning.

In the evening at 7pm I will be kicking off our United Methodist Cluster Lenten Services at Pocono Lake on Route 940 preaching a sermon on “The Parable of The Two Sons.” I hope you can join me as we fellowship with our brothers and sisters during the journey of Lent.

Lent is a great time for all of us to reflect deeply on our lives. The words “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return” are a sober reminder of who we are. Lent calls us to repent, to focus on the events that led to the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So the Journey of Lent starts on Ash Wednesday but it leads to The Cross. Along the way we will pause to think again about Maundy Thursday and Good Friday and Easter, meditating on the great sacrifice of our Lord Jesus dying on The Cross for our salvation. Please get ready for Take-Off!

Have a safe and exciting journey and may the Lord be with you.

Peace and Blessings,

Pastor Kofi
